Significant progress has been reported this month on the Harbor Bridge Project, with the PreCast Yard (PCY) team achieving a major milestone in the construction of the new HBP Cable-Stayed Bridge. This week, the final Cable-Stayed Bridge (CSB) segments were loaded and shipped from the yard, marking the completion of a critical phase of the bridge construction.
Both the South and North Pylon crews have also made substantial progress. The South Pylon team successfully lifted and placed the final two back/main span segments for spans 19/19. Meanwhile, the North Pylon crew is set to finish the Cycle 19 segment lifts tonight. Additionally, the final median span pours are underway this week, and the last stay cable installations, completing all 19 sets, are scheduled to commence next week.
A question on many observers’ minds has been about the timeline for closing the final gap of the bridge. The middle span represents a unique construction challenge, deviating from the rhythm and routine established in the previous 19 cycles. The process of placing the final main span closure segments (10 in total) and installing the four expansion joints at the back span piers is expected to take several weeks, with a target completion date set for late January.
As the Harbor Bridge Project continues to progress, further updates will be provided. Congratulations to the PCY team on reaching this pivotal stage in the development of the new cable-stayed bridge, a key infrastructure component expected to enhance transportation in the region.
