A taste of nostalgia is on its way to Union Grove Woodway, with the announcement that Trent Neumann is bringing the iconic Waco Health Camp burgers and shakes to station 8 in the highly anticipated 30,000-square-foot food hall. UnionBrands Eateries Texas, LLC revealed the news that the original Health Camp, a beloved Waco staple, will be heating up the grill in late October 2023.
The announcement is a milestone for both Waco’s culinary heritage and the new food hall, which will be located at 8100 Woodway Dr., surrounded by the scenic locale filled with trees. Union Grove Woodway is set to feature around 30 vendors and will officially open its doors in Fall 2023.
Health Camp has been a prominent name in Waco’s food scene since its inception in 1948. Founded by the late Jack Schaevitz, it initially served as a mobile canteen offering ice cream and burgers to military personnel at the Connally Air Force Base. The success was instantaneous, leading to the establishment of a permanent Health Camp location on the Waco Traffic Circle in 1949.
Schaevitz’s innovative approach to fast food made him a pioneer in the industry. His dedication to quality, offering the finest frozen custard, ice cream, and burgers, set the stage for what Health Camp continues to offer today. Now owned and operated by J. David Tinsley, Health Camp remains a symbol of early fast-food excellence.
The addition of Health Camp to Union Grove Woodway’s list of vendors brings a sense of historical richness to the new culinary venture. With a reputation that spans over seven decades, the brand’s presence in the food hall symbolizes a bridge between Waco’s past and future culinary landscape. Food enthusiasts, history buffs, and newcomers to Waco’s food scene can all anticipate the delightful combination of classic flavors and modern ambiance that the inclusion of Health Camp’s offerings at Union Grove Woodway promises to deliver.
