Congressman Tony Gonzales was in Fort Davis this week to mark the opening of the new Jeff Davis County Community Center, a project supported by $1.3 million in federal funding he previously secured for the rural West Texas community.
Gonzales shared photos from the event showing him participating in a ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside local officials and residents at the facility, formally known as the Jeff Davis County Community Center — FMH Foundation Building, located at 501 E. Cemetery Road.
“Team Gonzales was on the ground in Fort Davis to celebrate a new community center for the region,” Gonzales wrote in a public post announcing the visit. “I secured $1.3 million in federal funding for this important project that will greatly improve quality of life in Jeff Davis County.”
The visit highlights Gonzales’ continued engagement across the vast 23rd Congressional District, which spans much of West Texas and includes Jeff Davis County. Rural infrastructure projects such as community centers often serve as multi-purpose hubs for public meetings, educational programming, and emergency coordination, particularly in smaller communities with limited public facilities.
Local leaders and residents gathered for the ceremony, which included the traditional ribbon cutting and recognition of those involved in bringing the project to completion.
