Ryan Holiday Prepares to Release New Book: Wisdom Takes Work

Preorders open now for the bestselling author’s latest reflection on ancient philosophy and modern life

Author and Daily Stoic founder Ryan Holiday has announced the release of his next book, Wisdom Takes Work, due out in fall 2025. The announcement was made via social media and his Daily Stoic website, where Holiday reflected on the book’s inspiration and offered preorder incentives.

The book was written overlooking Ithaca, the symbolic home of Odysseus in Homer’s Odyssey. Holiday referenced the moment in the epic when Athena appears in the form of Mentor to guide Telemachus. “Any wisdom I have is thanks to my mentors and all the books I have read,” Holiday wrote.

In announcing the book, Holiday said: “Wisdom Takes Work is out in the fall, but when you preorder today at dailystoic.com/wisdom you’ll receive some pretty cool bonuses like signed and numbered first editions, signed pages from the original manuscript, and an invite to a philosophical dinner with me.”

Holiday is known for bringing ancient Stoic philosophy to a wide modern audience through books like The Obstacle Is the Way, Ego Is the Enemy, and The Daily Stoic. He owns and operates The Painted Porch Bookshop in Bastrop, Texas, where he often hosts events and philosophical discussions.
