El Rancho Supermercado, a banner of Heritage Grocers Group, has rolled out handcrafted, scratch-made carnitas across all of its Texas locations, aiming to offer authentic flavor, cultural tradition, and affordability to its customers.
Prepared fresh daily in each store’s cocina, the new carnitas are made from marbled cuts of pork butt, slow-braised for hours and finished with a crisp fry in a traditional cazo — a method rooted in Mexican culinary heritage. The result is a tender, savory dish available as a standalone entrée or served in tacos made with El Rancho’s own tortillas.
“With pork prices currently 50% lower than beef, our cocineros are creating an accessible, flavorful option for families,” said Gil Diaz, Vice President of Prepared Foods at Heritage Grocers Group. “Expertly handcrafted and slow-cooked daily, our carnitas reflect El Rancho’s dedication to tradition, culinary excellence, and cultural authenticity.”
El Rancho stores will offer the carnitas every Friday at a special promotional price of $6 per pound, delivering a value-driven alternative for shoppers.
Meat sales drive more than 25% of total revenue across El Rancho Supermercado locations, and the introduction of made-in-house carnitas builds on that strength, enhancing the grocer’s reputation as a destination for fresh, traditional Hispanic foods.
El Rancho operates 29 stores in Texas as part of the Heritage Grocers Group, the largest Hispanic and ethnic food retailer in the country. To learn more, visit https://elranchoinc.com.
