Smokey Mo’s BBQ is bringing its signature Texas barbecue to Bastrop with a new location under construction at 707 Highway 71 West, Suite 124, in the Burleson Crossing shopping center.
The project, scheduled to begin July 21, involves a $650,000 finish-out of a 2,400-square-foot first-generation space. Work is expected to be completed by November 21, 2025, according to state records. The project is privately funded and located on private land.
Known for smoking all its meats in-house using post oak wood, Smokey Mo’s BBQ has built its reputation on slow-cooked brisket, ribs, sausage, and homestyle sides such as mac and cheese and potato salad. Founded in Cedar Park by Morris “Mo” Melchor and his wife, Lisa, the company has grown to more than 20 locations across Central Texas.
The Bastrop restaurant will follow the brand’s counter-service model and continue its tradition of community involvement. Smokey Mo’s is active in supporting local schools, nonprofits, and events, and has served as the title sponsor of the Cedar Fest Cook-Off.
The company recently announced plans for continued expansion across Texas, with Bastrop marking another step in its regional growth.
