Blue Bonnet Cafe: A Texas Comfort Food Landmark Since 1929

For nearly a century, Blue Bonnet Cafe has been a cornerstone of comfort food in the Texas Hill Country. Located in Marble Falls, the family-owned restaurant is renowned for its hearty homestyle meals, all-day breakfast, and world-famous pies, attracting visitors from across the country and beyond.

A Tradition of Texas Comfort Food

Since opening in 1929, Blue Bonnet Cafe has built a reputation for its classic Southern dishes. Its blue plate specials feature staples like chicken-fried steak, pot roast, and liver and onions, each served with a choice of three vegetables. Daily specials include meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, and sour cream chicken enchiladas, offering a taste of traditional Texas home cooking.

All-Day Breakfast and Award-Winning Recognition

Breakfast is a highlight at Blue Bonnet Cafe, available all day. The menu includes eggs cooked to order, oversized pancakes, homemade Texas toast, and fluffy biscuits. The cafe has been recognized by Texas Highways Magazine as having the “Best Breakfast in Texas” and was listed among Travel & Leisure Magazine’s “Top 100 Breakfasts.”

Famous Pies Baked Fresh Daily

One of the cafe’s biggest draws is its selection of freshly baked pies, featuring flavors such as pecan, chocolate meringue, coconut cream, and banana cream. These handmade desserts have helped Blue Bonnet Cafe earn a loyal following, with customers often placing advance orders for whole pies.

Family-Owned and Community-Focused

John and Belinda Kemper took ownership of the restaurant in 1981, with Belinda refining the recipes that have since become customer favorites. Their daughter, Lindsay Plante, and her husband, David, joined the business in 2005, continuing the legacy.

Beyond its food, Blue Bonnet Cafe is deeply involved in the Marble Falls community, regularly supporting local schools, events, and nonprofit organizations. The restaurant also hosts the Marble Falls Area EMS Fish Fry twice a year, donating all food and labor to support emergency medical services.
