Preservation Texas is inviting its members to join a unique field trip this November in Lampasas, offering exclusive access to several unrestored historic buildings and sites in East Lampasas. The tour will highlight significant landmarks like the 1920s Lampasas Colored School and New Hope Baptist Church, which are among the few remaining symbols of the historic Black community that once thrived in the area. Attendees will also visit the 1855 Moses Hughes Mill and Dam ruins on Sulphur Creek, another key site facing preservation challenges.
The event will guide participants through the process of exploring historic buildings and landscapes, helping them uncover evidence of a place’s origins and evolution from a preservationist’s perspective. The newly formed Lampasas Conservancy, a nonprofit working to save and repurpose these endangered sites—featured on the 2023 Most Endangered Places List—will also share the historical context of East Lampasas and outline its vision for the future.
Registration for this field trip will be free for Preservation Texas members, with space limited to 25 participants. More details will be available soon. For more information, visit Preservation Texas.
