More than 350 Forensic Science students from Midland High School gained practical experience in crime scene processing yesterday during an educational event hosted by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) in collaboration with the Midland Police Department, Midland ISD Police, the Midland County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sibley Nature Center.
Students rotated through four mock crime scenes, learning key aspects of crime scene investigation, including photography, evidence collection, and scene security procedures. The event allowed students to observe officers, crime scene technicians, and crime lab personnel in action, offering an inside look at the steps involved in processing a scene from start to finish.
In addition to the hands-on training, students had the opportunity to interact with professionals from the participating agencies, gaining insights into careers in law enforcement and forensic science.
Texas DPS expressed gratitude to all the agencies involved in the event and extended a special thank you to ExxonMobil for providing lunch to the officers and volunteers who participated.
This collaboration provided students with a unique learning experience that helped bridge classroom theory with real-world law enforcement practices.
