The 48th Annual CLEAT Convention and Leadership Academy will take place on October 11 and 12, 2024, at the Hotel Paso Del Norte in El Paso, Texas. The convention brings together law enforcement professionals for a two-day event focused on officer wellness, leadership development, and career resilience.
Kicking off with a welcome reception hosted by the El Paso Municipal Police Officers Association and the El Paso County Sheriffs Officers Association, attendees will enjoy live music and food trucks on Thursday evening at the Convention Center Plaza.
The convention will feature two days of informative sessions led by renowned speakers. On Friday, Dr. Jeffeory Hynes, a retired Phoenix Police Department Commander, will lead a training session on “Law Enforcement Wellness, Mental Health Resilience & Career Longevity.” His presentation will offer practical tools and best practices to enhance wellness within law enforcement organizations, focusing on improving mental health resilience and promoting career longevity.
Later that afternoon, (Ret) Sgt. John Mattingly, a 21-year veteran of the Louisville Metro Police Department, will discuss his personal experiences in his session, “12 Seconds in the Dark.” Sgt. Mattingly will share insights from his time in the national spotlight following the 2020 Breonna Taylor incident, covering topics such as the physical and mental recovery from trauma, media scrutiny, and legal challenges.
On Saturday, the keynote speaker, Congressman Tony Gonzales, will address attendees during the morning session. A U.S. Navy veteran with 20 years of service, Gonzales will share his expertise on national security, drawing from his military experience and time serving as a Department of Defense Legislative Fellow for Senator Marco Rubio.
The convention will also include the Officer of the Year Awards Ceremony and a luncheon on Saturday, recognizing outstanding law enforcement officers for their contributions.
