Big Bend Telecom Acquires TDS Telecom’s Cable Operations in Alpine and Fort Stockton

Big Bend Telecom, LTD. (BBT), a key telecommunications provider in West Texas, has announced a significant expansion of its service footprint through the acquisition of TDS Telecommunications LLC’s (TDS®) cable operations in Alpine and Fort Stockton. The purchase agreement, signed on August 19, 2024, is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2024, marking a notable development in the region’s telecommunications landscape.

BBT, affiliated with Big Bend Telephone Company, has been a fixture in West Texas for over 60 years, providing high-speed fiber internet, voice, and data center solutions to rural communities. The company, founded in 1960 by Neville Haynes, has remained in the family, now owned by Neville’s grandson, Justin Haynes, who took the helm in 2005. BBT has made a name for itself by focusing on bridging the digital divide, ensuring that even the most remote areas of West Texas have access to reliable and modern telecommunications services.

The acquisition will also see eight local TDS Field Service associates joining BBT, which will help maintain the quality and continuity of service for customers in Alpine and Fort Stockton.

“We are excited to welcome the TDS customers and associates to the BBT family,” said Rusty Moore, General Manager and COO of BBT. “This acquisition aligns perfectly with our mission to provide exceptional service and innovative solutions to the communities we serve. We are committed to enhancing connectivity across West Texas and upholding the legacy of quality service that BBT is known for.”

BBT’s expansion through this acquisition underscores its ongoing commitment to improving telecommunications infrastructure in rural Texas, where reliable internet and communication services are critical to the region’s growth and development.
