The community of El Paso gathered today to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the tragic mass shooting that took 23 lives at a local Walmart on August 3, 2019. The somber occasion was marked by remembrance ceremonies, tributes, and the unveiling of new artwork to honor the victims and survivors.

Mayor Oscar Leeser and the Consulate General of Mexico in El Paso hosted a remembrance ceremony at Jim Crouch Park, located at 7500 W.H. Burges Drive, starting at 9:30 a.m. State Senator Cesar Blanco shared photos from the event on his Facebook page.
The Grand Candela Memorial, situated at the Walmart, continues to serve as a poignant reminder of the lives lost and the resilience of the El Paso community. Today’s events provided an opportunity for residents to reflect on the impact of the tragedy and to show solidarity with the victims’ families and survivors.
The ceremonies featured speeches from local leaders, including Mayor Leeser, and included the unveiling of new artwork dedicated to the memory of those who perished in the attack. The artwork, a symbol of unity and remembrance, aims to provide a place for reflection and healing.
Community members and local officials emphasized the importance of coming together to remember and support one another. The anniversary serves not only as a time to mourn but also as a call to action to prevent such tragedies in the future.
The El Paso community remains united in its commitment to honor the memory of the victims and to continue supporting those affected by the events of that tragic day.
