A fire that broke out on May 26th, 2024, completely destroyed Gallery on the Square along with several adjacent businesses, including Judy’s Bread and Breakfast, Eva’s Salon, and Snazzy Things. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the blaze, thanks to the efforts of firefighters and community members who responded to the emergency.
The fire left Gallery on the Square in ruins, but the Big Bend Arts Council (BBAC) is moving forward with plans to merge the gallery with CatchLight Gallery. This collaboration will give rise to the newly conceptualized Big Bend Gallery, which is set to open in the fall of 2024.
Located just two doors down from the former site of Gallery on the Square, the Big Bend Gallery aims to preserve the artistic legacy of its predecessor while introducing new creative initiatives to the Alpine community.
